The new plant will be set up with an investment of Rs 300 crore.

Indian Immunologicals, part of the National Dairy Development Board, is setting up a new vaccine manufacturing plant in Pondicherry with an investment of Rs 300 crore.
It may be noted here that this is the fourth facility for Indian Immunologicals. The vaccine manufacturer currently has two facilities in Hyderabad and one in Ooty.
The company has said that the new investment was part of the government’s strategy to meet the anticipated doubling of demand for veterinary vaccines. The demand is expected to reach 600 million doses in the next 3-4 years from the current 300 million doses.
The company is yet to take a call on whether to manufacture new vaccines at the proposed plant or expand the existing portfolio. The land for the facility has already been acquired and the decision on the variety of vaccines will take in about an year.
