Choose the Learning Model that Fits Your Life
The University of Florida’s Working Professional Doctor of Pharmacy distance-learning program leverages the latest in multimedia technology to make distance-learning possible. In addition, the WPPD program retains a component of in-person interaction with your instructors and peers, which is so vitally important in doctorate-level study.
To facilitate this face-to-face interaction the WPPD program utilizes learning sessions in two different models: Regional and Remote.
Regional Model
As a Regional student, you will attend face-to-face sessions in one of over 40 locations nationwide. The WPPD program operates physical classrooms in over 25 metropolitan areas (“Regions”) throughout the United States, such as New York City, Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlanta, Tampa, and Los Angeles.
Students who choose the Regional Model meet for clinical discussion and assessment requirements, led by a UF faculty facilitator, three Saturdays per semester, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
New students begin the program in the Foundations Course and attend only one Saturday regional session during their first semester. In addition to attending this regional session, Foundations students also participate in 6 conference calls during the first semester.

Remote Model
The Remote Model is designed for those Doctor of Pharmacy students who may not have convenient access to one of the regional site locations.
As a Remote Model student, you will attend a single class session each semester over an extended weekend (Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning) instead of the three individual Saturday sessions required of the Regional Model. The Program hosts two remote sites: Remote-West (Las Vegas, NV) and Remote-East (Tampa, FL).
In addition to the extended weekend meetings, students in the Remote Model also participate in live weekly sessions via videoconference and an interactive virtual classroom online. All individual course assignments and activities are the same as those in the Regional Model.
During the first semester, new students who attend the Remote Model weekend session will be required to attend only the Saturday activities from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Changing Models or Sites
It is possible to switch from one model to the other during the course of your enrollment in the program if you find it necessary.

Pharm.D. Admission Requirements
All applicants to the Working Professional Doctor of Pharmacy program must be licensed, practicing pharmacists in the United States or Canada. Canadian residents who graduated from non-U.S. or Canadian institutions must have a U.S. pharmacy license, in addition to a Canadian pharmacy license.
Applicants must hold a B.S. in Pharmacy from a regionally accredited United States institution, a Canadian institution, or hold a U.S. equivalent B.S. in Pharmacy from an International institution.

Program Start Options
Applicants can choose to begin the program as a degree-seeking or non-degree seeking student.
- Degree-Seeking Student: The degree-seeking student is an applicant that has successfully complete their application and has been officially accepted into the program by the College of Pharmacy Admissions Committee.
- Non-Degree Seeking Student: The non-degree seeking student is an applicant that begins the program while continuing to finalize application paperwork. This option allows students to take classes while completing the admissions process, without waiting to get started.Application paperwork must be completed before the end of the first semester. A student may only be non-degree seeking for one semester, and must be accepted to continue in the program. The Foundations in Pharmaceutical Care course you take as a non-degree seeking student will count toward your Doctor of Pharmacy degree upon your admission to the program.
Required Documents for Admission
The University of Florida Pharm.D. program is an academically robust program with rigorous admissions standards.
Applications are accepted continuously throughout the year, and students can begin the program in the spring, summer or fall semester. Applicants will be reviewed for admission on the strength of their ability to excel in the program, based upon the following criteria:
- Completed the online application for admission ($30 application fee)
- Two letters of recommendation – sealed and dated
- Written statement of educational goals
- Personal profile questions
- Letter of permission for accessing patient records

- Copy of graduation certificate (diploma)

- Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work
- Proof of current BLS Certification for healthcare providers

The University of Florida’s Working Professional Pharm. D. distance-learning program provides a flexible and convenient way to earn your degree while maintaining your career. In our program, you will take just one class per semester and can complete the program in as little as three years.
UF offers three convenient start dates per year, so you can begin the program when the time is right for you. The academic calendar for the upcoming semesters is:
